Very handsome Directoire general's saber of the national awa - Lot 218
Very handsome Directoire general's saber of the national award type, finely chased and gilded brass hilt, branch formed of oak leaves with acorns, filleted right crosspiece, oval mounts chased with a trophy of arms resting on a lictor beam, on the front and, on the back, a coat of arms trophy on a club, straight quillon terminating in a strong lion's head, long-tailed cap in the German style, terminating in a lion's snout, fully filigreed spindle; curved blade, one-third blued and gilded; brass scabbard with two bracelets engraved with laurels, the first part chased with flutes and foliage, the middle part with an oval medallion with a trophy of arms, the lower part with an oval medallion chased with a flower and, at the end, with flutes and foliage, the decoration is partly double-sided, iron sting cut and pierced; length 101 cm. (Old repair to the second strap; wooden splints missing). Directoire period. Very good condition.
