Very fine senior officer's saber, chased and gilded brass German-style hilt, limb and crosspiece decorated with laurel leaves, limb terminated by a fantastic animal head, strong quillon terminated by acanthus leaves, straight lictor-beam-shaped auricles, German-style cap chased and engraved with foliage and pierced, ebony spindle, filigree; fine curved damascus blade decorated with gilded cabalistic signs; scabbard entirely in gilded brass, with three inserts terminating in an acanthus leaf, in the center of each insert cartouches, the first chased with a beautiful trophy of arms, the second with a Gorgon's head resting on a glory, and the third with a woman dressed in antique style holding an urn, all edges of inserts and scabbard adorned with a foliage frieze, symmetrical brass sting; length 95.8 cm. (A few small stains on the blade). Directoire, Consulate period. Very good condition.
