Forte épée de luxe de général de division, chased and gilded brass hilt, chased keyboard in high relief of the crowned imperial eagle resting on six flags and surrounded by a branch of oak and laurels, three silver stars, branch adorned with a helmet, pommel chased with the emblem of general officers, hinged countersword adorned with palmettes around the perimeter and signed, below: "ML SPIQUEL & CIE A PARIS", black horn spindle, silver filigree; blade with diamond-shaped section and two lateral grooves; iron scabbard fitted with a button-ring bracelet; length 101 cm. It is presented with a round, gilded, senior officer's lanyard and a sword belt in leather, red silk and vermeil thread, with a round, gilded Medusa-head clasp. (Missing a filigree spire; belt worn and repaired). Second Empire period. Very good condition. SPIQUEL Michel, arms manufacturer in Paris, specializing in luxury arms and belts 164, rue Saint-Honoré. Paris Exhibition, 1849; Paris Universal Exhibition, 1855. Around 1870, he went into partnership with his son, and his signature became "MICHEL SPIQUEL & FILS PARIS".
