Box made for the creation of the Order of National Merit. Rectangular, in dark patina bronze, lid adorned with the grand cross of the order surrounded by 14 small crosses; inside lid marked: "CE COFFRET EN BRONZE DEDIE A L'ORDRE NATIONAL DU MERITE A ETE CISELE PAR ALBERT JAEGER ET SPECIALEMENT FONDU A LA MAIN A VOTRE INTENTION"; front adorned with a medallion with a woman (probably the Republic) presenting the cross and the inscription: "ORDRE NATIONAL DU MERITE, FONDE EN 1963 PAR LE GENERAL DE GAULLE"; the sides and back are adorned with crosses of the order; the underside bears four feet and marked: "MONNAIE DE PARIS"; 19 x 11.5 cm, height 10.5 cm. Circa 1963. Very good, near-new condition
