Beautiful jewel of a grand eagle of the Order of the Legion of Honor, unusual goldsmith's model, enameled gold of the 4th type, crown with eagles alternating with fleurons, faceted cut ring punched on the top with a rooster's head, enameled gold centers in three parts, obverse marked: "NAPOLEON EMPEREUR DES FRANCAIS" and on the reverse: "HONNEUR ET PATRIE", surrounded by a row of diamonds; diameter 70.5 mm, gross weight 84 g. (Small chip to the two tips of a lower branch on the obverse).
First Empire period, 1812/1814 or Cent-jours 1815. Very good condition.
This great eagle could only have belonged to a great personage of the Empire or the imperial family.
