Large "ras" or "point plat" carpet, with rich medallion, shell and large scroll decor. Manufacture d'Aubusson, circa 1840-1850. H: 350 - W: 387 cm Fragilities and chips, restorations. Bibliography : E. Floret, Les Tapis Français, in L'Art du Tapis dans le Monde, p. 267. The design of this rug is inspired by the Louis XV style, mixed with an Islamic influence, both reinterpreted. Eclecticism prevailed during this period, as seen at the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie. This carpet can be attributed to the Sallandrouze manufacture in Lamornaix.
