D : 6 cm One signed and dated lower right Dv Boudon / fevit 1789, the second signed and dated lower right Dv Boudon fecit 1788 H ? Swiss-born miniaturist David Boudon learned the art of engraving in Geneva. In 1794, he emigrated to the United States, where he worked as a miniaturist, constantly traveling up and down the East Coast. He worked in Charleston, Savannah, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington. We know that he charged six dollars for a small portrait, a rather substantial sum in those days.
