Rare strong rifleman's sword model 1758, bronze scalloped hilt with crowned arms of France, poucier counterplate, round gadrooned pommel, fully copper-filigreed spindle; straight, flat, single-edged blade, engraved on the heel with crowned arms of France and a sun, marked: "VIVAT REGUM CARISSIMUS" and "RÉGIMENT DES CARABINIERS..." (DE MGR LE COMTE DE PROVENCE), the end not legible, back signed probably: "DESHAYES" (partly illegible), length 96.5 cm. (DE MGR LE COMTE DE PROVENCE), the end not legible, back probably signed: "DESHAYES" (partly illegible), length 96.5 cm; leather-covered wooden scabbard, brass fittings: two splints (the one on the back is smaller), three rings, a button cap and an iron stinger cap; total length 119 cm. (Blade oxidized; scabbard perhaps restored). Mid 18th century. Fairly good condition. Scabbard knob bent.
