Interesting and rare 18th-century flintlock breech-loading m - Lot 163
Interesting and rare 18th-century flintlock breech-loading musket, foreign model, probably trial model, octagonal barrel, then round, fitted on each side of the breech with a flange used to lock the mobile part of the barrel acting as a mobile breech for loading, hinged on the breech tail and swinging back to the rear; a lever hinged at the top locks this breech to the flanges and folds to the side; the breech tail is equipped with a toggle for articulation of this breech, length 79.5 cm, caliber 18.5 mm. Flat-body lock, gooseneck hammer with rear safety, flangeless bassoon. Cut-out iron fittings, iron rod attached to the counterplate side bearing a sliding ring on the cylinder, stamped "M" counterplate and mouthpiece; a curious iron system, probably for locking a bayonet, is attached to the front of the trigger guard. Lightly carved walnut stock around the lock plate and breech. Total length 119 cm (the screw on the buttplate return has been changed, and the head of another broken off at the rear of the trigger guard). Second half of the 18th century. Very good condition.
