An important pair of high consoles in "Boulle" marquetry of brown tortoiseshell, regrained brass and pewter, decorated with foliate foliage; the backsplash has reserves of plain bands framing arabesque panels "à la Bérain"; they each open with a drawer in the waistband and stand on strong sheathed legs joined by a scalloped brace centered on an umbilicus with canals and asparagus; the top is sheathed in brown morocco with palmette friezes (tears to one); fine ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze such as laurel masks, ram heads and gadrooned rings...
