JAPON - Époque Meiji (1868-1912) Rectangular black lacquer box decorated in hira and taka maki-e in gold lacquer with an Okina mask, turtle fan and hat, the sides decorated with "ju" (longevity) characters. Interior decorated in gold lacquer hira maki-e and mother-of-pearl inlay with butterflies flying among a rigid fan, inkstone and chrysanthemums (missing, restored, repainted).
