This set represents a real technical challenge, the fruit of intense collaboration between over 200 engravers who reproduced the work of the 46 draftsmen who followed the expedition.
Papeteries d'Arches will supply around 2,200,000 sheets in "grand aigle" format (i.e.
75 x 106 cm) to print the plates, with all the monuments at the same scale.
The pages bear the dry stamp of the Sphinx surmounted by an obelisk and the inscription "Description de l'Egypte,2e éd. Publié par Panckoucke" (Description of Egypt, 2nd ed. published by Panckoucke). The publisher's intention was to make this reprint, published in installments and more accessible, available to a larger number of wealthy enthusiasts throughout Europe.
