Arnold Friedrich Wilhelm RECHBERG (1879-1947)
La Voluptueuse, 1905 Shaded brown patina bronze proof, signed with the initials A.A Hébrard fondeur. Height: 46.5 cm Exhibition: Arnold Rechberg, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, November 1-15, 1906, N°7 of the exhibition. This head is a study for the Condamnés group, as described by L. Roges-Milès in the introduction to the 1906 exhibition catalog: "Of a group he is planning, the Condamnés, we still know only fragments, but these fragments are enough to interest us: it's the Remorse, a mask of resigned anxiety; it's the Laugher, the laugher with a bad laugh, teeth clenched, jaw hateful, eyes fiendish, and his laugh is close to a rictus and squeaks; it's the Voluptuous, with heavy, flickering eyelids, a drunken gaze, drowned in shadow ; her nostrils are pinched like those of the dead; great disgust wanders around the corner of her lips, where a supreme rattle breathes out; her mask, under sensual torture, takes on an expression of vertigo, definitive abandon and infinite weariness. Provenance : - Former collection of Marie de Rohan-Chabot, Princess Murat. - By descent to the present owners.
