Three pieces concerning the emigration and the order of the Phoenix of Hohenlohe: - Certificate marked: "British Army - Corps de Condé - Regiment of Durand. We, Jean Baptiste Vincent, Chevalier Durand, Knight of the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis, Commander of the Order of the Phoenix of Hohenlohe, Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment of our name, certify that Mr. Nicolas François de Bonnay de Nonancourt, Captain in the Regiment of Rouergue French Infantry, knight of the royal and military order of Saint-Louis, knight of the order of the Phoenix of Franconnie, served in the regiment of Hohenlohe which became Durand, in the capacity of lieutenant since July 29, 1796 until July 16, 1800 and in that of captain aide major, since this last time until this day; that he has been present at all the affairs of the regiment where he has conducted himself with honor and distinction and that he carries the esteem, the friendship and the regrets of his leaders and comrades. In witness whereof we have issued him the present certificate signed by our hand and affixed with our arms. At Lichtenwald in Stiria on May 8, 1801. Ch. Durand". - Certificate partly printed with the British arms: "We William Wickham, minister plenipotentiary & commissary-general of His British Majesty near the imperial, royal & allied armies, certify that the sieur Nicolas François de Bonnay de Nonancourt, captain native of Verdun, province of the Three Bishoprics, aged 46 years, Catholic religion.... has served with distinction, zeal and bravery, as captain aide major in the regiment of Durand of the Corps de Condé and that he has enjoyed since the dismissal of this troop a life pension of two English silver shillings per day... by order of His British Majesty in consideration of his services. In faith of which we have given him the present patent to serve him at the same time as a passport asking all those who are to be asked not to molest him in any way but on the contrary to give him help, protection and assistance wherever he may find himself either to travel or to settle. The present being provided with the seal of our arms and our signature; given in Gratz on July 30, 1801". - Patent of the order of the Phoenix of Hohenlohe partly printed on parchment, given by the Prince of Hohenlohe-Waldembourg-Bartenstein grand master of the order of our house, knight of the orders of the King of France, awarded to Nicolas François de Bonnay de Nonancourt, colonel of infantry, knight of the royal and military order of Saint-Louis and the imperial order of Léopold of Austria, to take rank of July 1, 1798, given in Lunéville on September 25, 1816, signed by Louis Prince of Hohenlohe Bartenstein; red wax seal. Very good condition.
