oil on rectangular canvas signed and dated lower right: "Hte coté 1841": Portrait of a vice-admiral; he wears the knight's cross of the order of the Legion of Honor; gilded frame decorated, in the corners, with foliage; 73 x 59 cm. (Small old restorations). Louis-Philippe period. Good condition. Hippolyte COTÉ, painter born in Brest in 1816; he studied with Paul DELAROCHE; he was appointed professor of drawing at the high school of Brest and began, in 1846, to exhibit at the Salon de Paris.
