Sabre of the gunners of the Royal Colonial Artillery Corps, cast bronze hilt, one-piece, straight crosspiece with inverted quillons, fur chased spindle ending in a lion's or sea dog's head, held to the blade by three iron rivets, tang riveted to the top; blade lenticular in cross-section, slightly reduced at the heel, stamped: "996" as well as on the hilt, punched, at the heel, with a crowned head half visible under the guard, central throat on the half; length 72.5 cm. (Without scabbard). Revolutionary period, 1784. Good condition.
