Beautiful and rare court sword, probably an admiral's sword, hilt entirely in chased silver, branch decorated with foliage, in the middle: a head of Neptune, quillon in the shape of a dolphin, knot of body decorated with trophies with anchor and trident, pommel with a radiant sun surrounded by a crown of palms and reeds, spindle profusely decorated with marine symbols and, in the middle of each face, with a cartouche in rocaille a three-masted ship, on the front, and a small ship under sail with the arms of France, near a lighthouse, on the back; the shells chiseled with marine trophies and, in the center, crowned arms of France, on the top side and, on the bottom side of maritime scenes with ships and trophies. Triangular blade engraved in thirds and marked in oval cartouches: "Les hommes pour la guerre" and "Et Dieu donne la victoire". Leather scabbard with two silver trimmings, brass bolt. Length 95,5 cm. (Bouterolle not original; blade with oxidation, to be cleaned). Late Louis XV, early Louis XVI period. Good condition. POINÇONS: on an unidentified donkey step, but probably from Paris. This sword presents the qualities of a reward weapon given by the King.
