Attribué à Louis-Lié PERIN-SALBREUX (1753-1817)
Presumed portrait of the artist's mother Watercolour and gouache on ivory, oval. 7.4 x 6.4 cm Louis-Lié Périn-Salbreux benefited from the early protection of the painter Joseph Marie Vien. He was also a pupil of Anicet Lemonnier, and it is thought that he most likely had Sicardi, then at the height of his career, as his teacher in the art of miniature painting. Périn-Salbreux copied many portraits by Roslin, whose influence can be seen in his work, and of whom he was an avid collector. After 1800, his works are very rare. In the second part of his life, he took over the textile industries of his family in Reims. We can compare our miniature with a portrait of Périn-Salbreux's mother, kept in the Louvre (inv 32335).
