In-4° (200 x 290 mm), long-grained green morocco, broad framing of gilt and cold-stamped fillets decorating the boards, large fleuron at the corners, ornate ribbed spine, lining and endpapers of chocolate-coloured moire, untrimmed, ornate cover in colour preserved (Mercier sr de Cuzin). A title-frontispiece, 22 plates, including a frontispiece portrait of Pierre Corneille, two maps, two heraldic plates and five costume plates in colour, and numerous vignettes in the text engraved after MOREL-FATIO, TELLIER, GIGOUX, DAUBIGNY, DEBON, BELLANGÉ & Alfred JOHANNOT.
