Attribué à Jacques Louis de LA HAMAYDE de SAINT-ANGE dit «Saint-Ange» (Paris, 1780-1860), d'après Jean-Baptiste GREUZE (1725-1805)
Bacchante, 1827. Large oval miniature painted on ivory, signed and dated on the right "M. St. A. / 1827", after Greuze's painting of the same name in Waddesdon Manor (inv. 2489.1), encircled with gilt bronze. A crack. H : 14,5 - W : 10,5 cm Frame : H : 18 - W : 14 cm Literature : The mysterious signature is probably that of Jacques Louis de La Hamayde de Saint Ange (1780-1860), draughtsman and painter on porcelain, active in Sèvres from 1806 to 1821. It must be the same "de Saint-Ange" listed by Lespinasse and then by N. Lemoine-Bouchard in his book "Les peintres en miniature" of 2008, p. 453, although his dates do not correspond.
