Attribué à Simon Pierre Bernard RANFER (Dijon, 1766 - après 1797), d'après Élisabeth VIGÉE-LEBRUN (1755-1842)
Prince Lubomirski as Genius of Fame, 1797. Oval miniature painted on ivory, monogrammed and dated on the left "S.R. / 1797", representing the Polish prince Henryk Ludwik LUBOMIRSKI (1777-1850) as Genius of Fame, after the 1789 painting by Vigée-Lebrun, preserved in the Gemäldegalerie of Berlin. In its rectangular wooden frame with gilded passe-partout H: 10 - W: 8 cm Frame: H: 18 - W: 16.5 cm History: A poorly known miniature painter, Simon Ranfer is nevertheless listed in N. Lemoine-Bouchard's book "Les peintres en miniature" of 2008, p. 433, as being active during the Directoire (two other miniatures by him are known dating from 1796 and 1797). He seems to have copied mostly works of great painters, such as Greuze, Falconet or even here Vigée-Lebrun.
