École ANGLAISE du milieu du XVIIIe siècle, d'après George VERTUE (1684-1756)
Portrait of Henry VIII, King of England. Portrait of his son Edward VI, King of England. Pair of oils on copper, representing them in an oval painted medallion. H: 20 - W: 18 cm Frames: H: 32.8 - W: 30 cm History: The portrait of Henry VIII is based on the engraving made by George Vertue in 1733, a copy of which is in the British Museum (inv. O,7.29), which was made after one of the many copies with variations of the famous portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger, of 1540 (Rome, Palazzo Barberini, inv. 878). George Vertue, in the letter of his engraving, specifies: "from a painting in the Royal Gallery at Kensington", probably a version close to the one kept in the Art Gallery of Ontario (inv. 2000/172). The portrait of Edward VI is based on the engraving made by George Vertue in 1732, a copy of which is in the National Portrait Gallery (inv. NPG D24801), which the engraver mentions as "from an original in Kensington Palace". File realized with the collaboration of Mr. Pierre-Antointe Martenet, expert.
