Portrait of Count Arthur-François-Victorien Richard de Villers-Vaudey (1791-?), 1821 Oval miniature painted on ivory, signed and dated lower right "Jacques 1821", representing him smiling in a three-quarter bust to the right on a brown background, encircled by gilt metal. Good condition. In a rectangular gilded wood frame with palmettes. H : 8,7 - W : 7 cm Frame : H : 21 - W : 19,3 cm History : Nicolas Jacques, pupil of David and Isabey, will be active until the 1830s. He was very quickly introduced to the prestigious clientele, he was indeed one of the best miniaturists of his time, exhibiting at the Salon from 1804 to 1844. After having emancipated himself from his master Isabey, for having copied the effigies of Marie-Louise and Napoleon, he painted his own originals for his clientele, and became one of the suppliers of the Orleans family.
