La Vérité, 1908 Rare circular mirror in gilt bronze and polychrome enamel, decorated on one side with an allegorical figure of Truth in the guise of a naked woman holding a mirror inlaid with mother-of-pearl, in a symbolist decoration, signed on the right "Grandhomme", bordered by an inscription in Latin on the frame: Immortalia mortali sermone notantes (Lucretius, 1. V, v. 122 : Expressing divine things in human terms). On the back a round mirror, held by a chain of suspension and tassels decorated with faceted glass cabochons. Good condition. Mirror : D: 9 cm Frame: D: 13,5 cm Exhibition: Probably Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts of 1908, Paris, part of n° 2453 (Three mirrors - La Vérité). Related works: - An identical mirror with a variation in the pose of La Vérité, probably also part of no. 2453 from the 1908 Salon, recently sold in the art market. - A hand mirror with an allegory of La Vérité with a slight variation in the pose, sold at Thierry de Maigret, 7 December 2012, lot 203.
