Constantin BRANCUSI (1876-1957)
Self-portrait in his studio with his polar dog, c. 1921-1925 Vintage silver print signed and dedicated in ink lower right; "to Ethel Moorhead. Memories of us both. Constantin Brancusi and Polar". 23.8 x 18 cm Constantin BRANCUSI (1876-1957) (Lots 1 to 11) Ethel Moorhead, British painter, published in Paris in May 1925 with Ernest Walsh the first issue of the magazine This Quarter, devoted to the Parisian literary and artistic scene. Several sculptures by Constantin Brancusi, met through Ezra Pound, are reproduced in it. The prints we present, including a self-portrait of Brancusi dedicated to Ethel Moorhead, are the fruit and witness of this collaboration. The proofs were most probably used in the preparation of the publication, as shown by certain annotations or indications of cropping left by the sculptor.
