MONOGRAMMISTE JHC (actif aux Pays-Bas dans le troisième quart du XVIIe siècle)
Still life with fruit, ham and Roemer glass Monogrammed panel below left JHC. Bears a stamp on the reverse. 48 x 70.5 cm Our painting is one of the few examples of a still life that can be given with certainty to the monogrammist JHC. Indeed, due to a lack of legibility in the deciphering, the works of this artist are often attributed to the monogrammist JHV. The monogrammist JHC is an artist close to the work of Michiel Simons. Next to the traditional German roemer glass that appears in many Dutch compositions, there is a lemon. At that time, the wines drunk in Holland came either from Bordeaux or from the banks of the Rhine and Moselle. German white wines considered too sweet were "cut" with a lemon to give them more acidity.
