Peter Adolph HALL (1739-1793)
Candy box in composition lined with tortoiseshell mounted in 750 thousandths gold with chiselled decoration of interlacing, with decoration in varnish Martin green color on squared bottom, the lid decorated with a miniature oval portrait painted on ivory representing a young woman in bust of three-quarters on the left, signed lower left hall in the gray background. A handwritten inscription inside the box believes to identify the figure as the "Marquise de Prie, mistress of the Regent, by Hall", but the dates of life and death of Jeanne-Agnès Berthelot de Pléneuf (1698-1727), Marquise de Prie, force us to see an unknown person. Cracks and slight lacks. Paris, 1768-1774. Gross weight: 85.7 g - H: 3.5 cm - D: 7.8 cm
