Set in 800-thousandths silver punctuated... - Lot 263 - Thierry de Maigret
Set in 800-thousandths silver punctuated with marcasites, consisting of an articulated necklace centred on a leafy motif decorated with 2 blue crystal medallions, the identical neckband holding 7 pendants, an identical bracelet adorned with a ratchet clasp with a safety chain surmounted by a countal crown and a pair of earrings. French work from the end of the 18th century. Weight of the necklace: 41. g. Length: 42 cm. Weight of the bracelet: 30.5 g. Length: 18.5 cm. Weight of the pendants: 17.40 g. Length: 5.8 cm. The lily flowers were deliberately crossed out during the French Revolution. It is indeed following the fall of the monarchy that most of the royal and noble emblems such as the fleur de lys were removed, whether on monuments, objects or more rarely as here on jewelry. Our ornament is thus a rare and moving testimony of this troubled period. MC.
