Beautiful flintlock shotgun of the Manufacture of Versailles: Double barrel in paneled table, multiple sides, then round, entirely blued, engraved and gilded on the first third of flowers, weapons trophies, urns, geometrical motifs, signed, on the band: "Boutet Directeur Artiste Manuf. at Versailles" and punched with thundering thunderbolts on the band: "BUTET" repeated twice, "L C" in a rectangle and "N B"; mouths decorated with gold motifs, calibre 15 mm. Breech tail forming a sighting rise, engraved with a spider's web, flowers and foliage. Flat-bodied, ice-polished plates, chiselled with pearls on the back and signed, one: "Boutet Directeur Artiste" and the other: "Manufacre à Versailles"; swan-necked hammers, engraved with foliage; platinum-plated volute basins. Staked and gilded brass trimmings; trigger guard decorated with a large rhombus; chequered butt sole. Walnut stock with cheek piece, checkered at the handle and on the shaft, carved with pearls around the plates; it is embellished with ebony inlays, at the front of the trigger guard of an urn with handles, at the ramrod entrance of a large decorative motif inlaid with a boxwood rosette, at the return of the butt plate of a lyre decorated with a boxwood flower, on the periphery of a folded ribbon band and, on each side, a fleuron ; the carved ebony console terminates in a halberd with an acorn. Dewlap mallet with a horn tip ending in an iron pellet. Length 115 cm. (Small lack of ebony at the console; one dog restored). Directoire period, Consulate. Good condition. BOUTET Nicolas Noël, born in 1761 † in 1833, famous director of the Versailles manufacture, from year II to 1818; he worked mainly on reward weapons, weapons of honor and luxury weapons, both white and firearms; these have achieved world renown, by their quality of execution and the originality of their models. He had a depot of the manufacture in Paris, 1236 rue de la Loi (rue de Richelieu) in the year XI, then 87 rue de Richeli
