Pair of officer's wheel pistols of the guard of Christian II, Great Elector of Saxony: Three-register barrels with pans, with conical then round flutes, slightly deceived at the mouths; thunderbolts engraved on the three upper pans and punched on the tops of the harquebusier Georg Geissler : a bird and above, on each side, a flaming grenade, they are dated: "1610"; one of the cannons, to the left of the light hole, bears the number: "4"....", calibre 14.5 mm. Flat-body locks, plain; gilded brass cupola wheels engraved with birds and foliage; engraved hammers and springs. Gilded iron bridges. Fruitwood stocks inlaid with bone plates engraved with foliage and rosettes; the two screws of the plates are surrounded by a bone inlay, one representing a snail, the other a sea monster; the back of the breech tails bear three bone plates, the middle one has a geometric design and the letters : "F F" and the two others the arms of Saxony; angles of the handles inlaid with bone fillets; the handles end in an engraved gilt gilt ferrule; very pretty pear-shaped pommels, with eight concave quarters inlaid with pearls and bone rosettes, edges embellished with gilt plates ending in a dome surmounted by a gilt ball. Wooden chopsticks with engraved bone tips. Length 76 cm. Period, Germany, Saxony, Dresden, 1610. Very good condition. Georg GEISSLER, Strasbourg and Dresden (1569/1616).
