Hard porcelain plaque, round, painted with... - Lot 329 - Thierry de Maigret
Hard porcelain plaque, round, painted with the bust of a figure in a frock coat, waistcoat, white shirt and tie, in front of trees; on the back, the author and the date: "Martinet 1820"; square gilded wooden frame with palmettes, round view; diameter of the plaque 15.5 cm, frame 26 x 26 cm (Small accidents in the frame). Restoration period. Plate in very good condition. Provenance: Nicolaÿ sale, June 20, 2001, n° 54. It could be a portrait of Martin Guillaume BIENNAIS; only one portrait is known of him, part of the collections of the Musée de la Malmaison, oil on canvas painted in 1835. Our subject is painted in 1820; BIENNAIS was born in 1764, which would make him 56 years old; on the Malmaison canvas made in 1835, he is 71 years old. He died in 1843, at the age of 79.
