FRANCE, provenant de l'épave des Sardinaux à Fréjus, commande de Luc d'Aquin, évêque de Fréjus
Three circular clay bowls with brown and beige glaze, one of them with traces of concretions. Probable period between 1681 and 1700. Diameter: 12 to 17.5 cm Luc d'Aquinas is a well-known figure, his father Louis was the Queen of England's first physician and his brother Antoine was Louis XIV's physician. In spite of his Jewish origins, he obtained the bishopric of Saint-Paul des Trois-Châteaux and then that of Fréjus from 1681. The boat was a tartane about ten meters long, the drawing of which is known thanks to Jouve's album published in 1675. At the time of the shipwreck, the sailboat was so loaded that the helmsman only had a small metre to carry out the manoeuvres.
