Léon blum (1872-1950)
2 signed autograph manuscripts, The Lesson from the Crisis and Our Three Tasks,[May 1947 ?]; 4 and 3 in-4 pages on the back of Popular letterheads (printer's blue pencil marks). Blum is pleased that the Confederal Bureau and the strike committee accepted the government's proposals the day after their initial refusal: "The life of France is disgorged by the enormous weight that weighed on it[...]. An awful fear of civil discord and fratricidal struggle is averted".... The war of nerves ends doubly well since it has resulted in the failure of "communist aggression", and the return to work in no way reflects a defeat of the working class... There remains the question of the balance between the resources and needs of the Nation.... - The duty of the Socialist Party is clearly defined: ensure that government measures to maintain a balance between the key data of the economy do not undermine the purchasing power of employees within the "working masses"; support "the liberation movement undertaken by the Workers Force group, helping it to detach the intelligence of the workers - and of the communist workers themselves - from the absurd and unbearable tyranny that has once again proved its worth"; establish with the authentic republicans a Third Force, "an immense Rally for the Defense of the Republic", against the enemies of freedom. More than ever, "the fate of Democracy in France depends on socialism"...
