Guy de maupassant (1850-1893)
Autograph poem, Ballade. Legend of the ladies' room in Étretat; 8 pages in-8 with crowned LM number (paper a little wrinkled, wrinkled marks, slightly crumpled edges, small slits, the 4th page slightly rubbed). Youthful poem on the legend of a cave in the cliffs of Étretat. Long piece of 14 sizains, plus a "Suite" of 13 sizains, in a primitive version different from the published text; the penultimate verse has been added, with a first corrected and crossed out version. "Slowly the stream arrives On the shore It's a sad autumn song Monotonous Who cries after the sunny days. "I hear a higher voice On the coast Dominating the sound of the flow What is this touching voice that enchants me Like a sad and sweet sobbing Isn't it my poor muse who is having fun singing to forget me Come back sadly forsaken My thought to your yoke will bend"... A copy of the final version is attached from another hand with some corrections.
