Signed and dated lower right or left JH Ramberg 1805 24 x 38 cm See the reproductions Ramberg was a painter, draftsman and engraver. Noticed by King George III of England, also a constituent of Hanover, he went to London in 1781. He was a student of Joshua Reynolds and Benjamin West. Protected by the king, he worked there until 1788, participating in numerous exhibitions. He then travelled to the Netherlands, Italy and Germany before returning to his native Hanover. Appointed painter of the elector's court, he continued to make many portraits for the English royal family. At the same time he was considered one of the most brilliant illustrators of his time, illustrating many works or the almanac. He engraved most of his drawings himself.
