Rare pair of flintlock pistols of dragon... - Lot 36 - Thierry de Maigret
Rare pair of flintlock pistols of dragon officer model 1767, barrels with two lateral sides then round, blued, length 21,6 cm, calibre 16,5 mm; flat-body locks, signed: "Pate à Charleville", espalet dogs; brass fittings; walnut stocks; iron rods; total length 37 cm. Period around 1767. Good condition. These pistols are of the regulatory type 1763/1766, but lighter; very few copies are known; Jean BOUDRIOT, in his book on Les armes à feu françaises modèles réglementaires, tome II, cahier 7, planche 2, describes them and notes: "This is the first model of officer's pommel pistol that is regulatory. The only example we know of is the sealed weapon from the Musée de la Manufacture de Saint-Étienne. The appearance of this pistol is closely identified with that of the troop and it is only by its smaller proportions and lighter weight that it stands out since, apart from the discreet drop at the breech tail, the weapon has no decoration. PROVENANCE: sale at Hôtel Drouot, Maître FRAYSSE, June 2009, n° 501.
