Flintlock pistol of the King's House model... - Lot 34 - Thierry de Maigret
Flintlock pistol of the King's House model 1763, modified by the ordinance of 18 February 1772, barrel with sides and then round, burnished, marked on the upper side in gold letters: "Gendarmes de la Gde du Roy", silver sight, stamped with thunder on the left side, length 27 cm, calibre approximately 17.5 mm; breech tail engraved; lock with flat body engraved with nets and a fleuron at the back, stamped: "S. E. B" crowned and signed: "Simon Jourjon", swan-neck hammer engraved afterwards; brass trims cut and engraved with nets, counter-platinum decorated with a fleuron at the back, cap nail engraved with a grenade throwing lightning bolts; walnut stock stamped: "214", stamped: "S. E. B" around a crowned fleur-de-lis and: "N M" at the back of the counter-platinum; wooden rod with iron tip; total length 44 cm. (Horn tip of the barrel end probably changed). Late Louis XV period. Good condition. PROVENANCE: sale of the old Pierre PETITOT collection, in Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 22 November 1989, n° 223. This pistol is reproduced in Maryse RASO's book on French regulatory pistols, Volume I, page 22.
